Birmingham does well for muddy boots and hand-feeding. Woodgate Valley Urban Farm, about 9km out, is £2 for goats, sheep and woodland trails (though these days it is look-not-touch). Sheldon Country Park is free, with a playground, a flat nature trail and planes roaring in low overhead. Out at West Bromwich, Forge Mill Farm charges from £7.50 and has a Natural Play Barn plus a farm shop for afterwards. Further out, Attwell Farm Park near Redditch mixes outdoor and indoor play for a fuller day. For toddlers, Oak Tree Children's Farm in Stonnall has an under-5s play barn from £2.50. Older children might prefer Little Owl Farm Park out at Stourport-on-Severn, with its sledge ride, zipline and assault course, or a booked alpaca walk at Middle England Farm Alpacas for ages 5 and up. If money's tight, Manor Farm Park and Sheldon Country Park cost nothing. Dog owners are welcome at several, including Forge Mill Farm and Brockswood Animal Sanctuary in Dudley, and most have a cafe for the inevitable second breakfast.
