What it’s like

Hands-on time with reptiles and invertebrates on a private, pre-booked visit at a small rescue sanctuary.

This isn't a farm you wander round with an ice cream. It's a private, guided visit where your group gets handling time with more than 15 species of reptiles and invertebrates, plus a proper talk on rainforests and conservation rather than just a name card on each tank. Kids finish with a Junior ranger certificate, which is a nice touch for the ones who like a bit of proof they did the thing.

The booking model takes some getting used to. You can't turn up on spec, everything goes through the website, and slots only open 70 days out, so if you've got a date in mind, don't leave it to the week before. The upside is you're not sharing the space with three other school groups.

Money-wise it's £15 a head for the first two visitors, then £10 for each extra person, and that includes any adult just there to supervise. That surprises some people, but the site is upfront that it's a self-funded rescue sanctuary, not a commercial farm with school subsidies, so every ticket is actually paying for animal care. Suitable from babies up, though the real engagement is going to come once a child is old enough to hold a snake and ask questions about it.

Birthday parties and school visits are both catered here, and there's a small gift shop for the obligatory plastic lizard on the way out.

Plan your visit

Can we just turn up on the day?

No, it's pre-booked only through their website. They manage numbers tightly since it's a private experience, not a walk-in farm.

How much does it cost?

£15 a person for the first two visitors, then £10 each for anyone extra. Every visitor pays, including adults just watching.

How far ahead can we book?

Bookings open up to 70 days in advance and spaces go quickly, so it's worth sorting a date as soon as you know it.

What do the kids actually do?

Handle reptiles and invertebrates across more than 15 species, with a guided talk on rainforests and conservation. They get a Junior ranger certificate at the end.

Is it suitable for a baby or toddler?

There's no minimum age listed, so babies are welcome, though the handling and certificate side will mean more to a child old enough to ask questions and hold things confidently.

Can you book a birthday party or school trip?

Both birthday parties and school visits are offered as part of what they run.
