Theme Parks & Fairgrounds in Birmingham

Drayton Manor, near Tamworth, is the proper theme park choice, coasters and a Thomas & Friends land on one ticket from £2, plus a 15-acre zoo thrown in. Closer to home, Cannon Hill Fun Park sits inside Cannon Hill Park itself, small rides built for the under-tens including a spinning coaster and a little land train. Out at Stourport-on-Severn, Playland Fun Park is pay-as-you-go by the river, go karts, bumper boats and a pony ride, with meadows for a picnic after. For a big day out, Gulliver's Kingdom near Matlock Bath is about 46 miles, worth treating as a proper trip rather than an afternoon, with a log flume 300ft up and rides scaled for ages 2 to 13. If you want free and outdoors nearer the centre, Swanshurst Park has a playground and woodland to explore, no rides but no cost either. Cannon Hill suits toddlers best; Drayton Manor and Gulliver's Kingdom have more for older kids.
