What it’s like
A free park with a play area, a lake and easy flat paths from the car park, good for a no-cost couple of hours outdoors.
There's a play area here and a lake to wander round, and getting between the two from the car park is straightforward with a buggy or a wheelchair, which isn't something every park manages. The path network they describe as good access covers the main loop, car park to play area to lake, so that's your safe bet if you've got little legs or wheels involved.
Stray off that main path though and it's a different story. The site itself flags steep slopes and rough grass in the areas beyond, so if you fancy exploring further than the obvious loop, expect some proper up and down rather than flat strolling. Fine for older kids who fancy a scramble, less fine if you're pushing a pram uphill.
Entry's free, which for a park with a play area and a lake is a decent shout for a cheap afternoon. There's a café on site for when the inevitable snack demands start, and the usual toilets and baby change are there too. Dogs are allowed round the park but not in the play area itself, and they do want them kept under control with mess picked up, so worth knowing if you're bringing one along with the kids.

Is there parking?
There's a car park off Bridge Street, called Abbey Fields car park.
Can we bring a buggy or wheelchair?
The main route between the car park, play area and lake is good for both. Head off that path and you'll hit steep slopes and rough grass, so it's less easy going.
Can we bring the dog?
Dogs are fine in the park as long as they're under control and you clean up after them, but they're not allowed in the play area.
Is there anywhere to get food?
There's a café on site.
