WHERE

Tamworth

What it’s like

Coasters, a whole Thomas & Friends land and a 15-acre zoo, all on one ticket near Tamworth.

There are over 50 rides here, but the two that get mentioned first are Thor, a disc coaster that spins you weightless, and Loki, the first Zamperla Nebulaz ride in the UK. Save those for a seven or eight-year-old who wants a proper thrill. Younger ones have Thomas Land to themselves, over 25 rides built around Thomas & Friends, which is the reason a lot of families with under-6s end up here in the first place. There's a Wild West zone too, and Adventure Cove for the water rides like the River Rapids and Wave Swinger, so a day here genuinely covers a four-year-old and a ten-year-old without either of them getting bored.

The zoo is 15 acres with big cats and primates, and it's easy to underestimate how much time that eats up on its own. If you're planning the coasters and Thomas Land and the zoo in one day, you are not doing it in a couple of hours.

On price: a dated day ticket is £27.50 for anyone 4 and up, £15 for 2 to 3 year olds, under 2s go free. If you can't commit to a date, the flexi ticket is £36 and doesn't need booking ahead, which is a decent chunk more for the flexibility. Book online and there's a £2 fee per transaction on top, and parking is £9.90 if you pay for it in advance rather than on the day. Worth knowing tickets are non-refundable, so pick your date carefully rather than hoping to shuffle it later.

There's a café and restaurant on site along with a gift shop, and high chairs are available if you ask. Wheelchairs and scooters can be hired from Guest Services, and there's an Easy Access Service for anyone who can't manage conventional queues.
