What it’s like
Free to get into, with an adventure playground, a reservoir to walk round and a café for when everyone's flagging.
Entry's free, which is the first thing worth knowing, because the parking isn't. You pay to leave the car (Blue Badge holders don't), then you've got an adventure playground and a big loop round the reservoir to fill the rest of the day. It's an outdoor site through and through, so a dry day makes a real difference to how much fun it is.
The playground is the bit kids will head straight for, and there's plenty of open grass either side of it if they need to peel off and just run about. Dogs are allowed on leads, though they want them kept close near the sheep and the meadows, so it's not a spot to let a dog off and hope for the best.
Food-wise there's one café, the Reservoir Café, doing hot and cold food, light meals and ice creams, and it's attached to the Raisborough Centre. Hours shift with the seasons: open till 5pm on summer weekdays, but shut earlier in winter and on Sundays and Bank Holidays, so don't turn up at 3pm on a January Sunday expecting a hot lunch. No barbecues or fires anywhere in the park either, which is a bit of a faff if that was the plan for a summer visit, so pack a picnic instead if you want to eat outdoors.
There's no booking involved, you just turn up, and the toilets run to a similar seasonal schedule as the café. It's closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day, otherwise it's a fairly reliable free day out as long as the weather plays along.
