Woodgate Valley Urban Farm

What it’s like
A £2 wander round goats, sheep and woodland trails, though the animals are look-not-touch these days.
You come here for the animals and the woodland, not for a hands-on petting session. Goats, sheep, chickens and rabbits are all on site and the site lists woodland trails to explore alongside them, but general visitors can't touch or feed the animals any more. If you've promised your kid a lamb feed like the ones you remember, check what's actually running that day, because seasonal bits like apple picking and lamb feeding come and go with the calendar rather than being on tap every visit.
At £2 a person it's about as cheap as a day out gets, and that's the main appeal here over a bigger city farm. Weekends run 11am to 3pm, and it's the same hours through the school holidays too, except Wednesdays when it's shut. That's a short window, so if you turn up at half two you're not getting long before they close up.
There's a picnic area listed but no picnics allowed on site, which feels like a contradiction until you realise it probably means a spot to sit rather than a spot to eat your own sandwiches. Wheelchair access is there if you need it, and group bookings are catered for if you're bringing more than your own two.
The farm also does themed children's parties, which is a nice option if you fancy something a bit different from a soft play do. With no touching and no feeding as standard, it's more of a look-and-learn visit than a full hands-on farm experience, so set expectations before you go rather than after.
