What it’s like
A working farm shop and café where you can watch the animals over breakfast and let the kids clamber over a real combine harvester.
There's no admission charge here, which straight away makes it an easy add-on to a weekend rather than a big planned-out day. The main pull for kids is climbing aboard the Big Machines, including an actual combine harvester, plus whatever farm fun and games are on that day. The café looks out over the farm animals, so even a fairly ordinary breakfast stop turns into something the kids will be pointing at through the window.
It's free entry, which means the spend is really just whatever you put through the café or farm shop, and that's no bad thing if you've got more than one child in tow. The café does breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and Sunday lunches, with vegetarian and gluten-free options on the menu, and it's dog friendly throughout the café, shop and outdoor areas, so you don't need to leave the dog in the car.
Hours shift a bit through the week. The café's open from 9 on weekdays but earlier, 8.30, on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and it shuts at 4 most days except Friday and Saturday when you get the extra hour until 5. Worth timing your visit around that if you fancy a proper sit-down lunch rather than rushing out before closing.
Beyond the everyday visit there's the odd bigger event, the Harvest Food Festival on 26th September has live music and food vendors alongside the farm games, and there's a Bonfire Night event on 7th November too. If you're around in September, Zack's Barn also does live music every Friday night.
