Circus & Street Performance in Liverpool
There isn't a proper big top in Liverpool, but the circus and street performance spirit shows up in some unusual corners. Sefton Park Palm House, about four kilometres from the centre, is free to wander and has plant trails and show gardens worth spotting on the way round. Liverpool Olympia, close to the centre, hosts touring circus and comedy shows in an old listed theatre, though under 16s need an adult with them. And for the grown-ups, Alcotraz Liverpool is an 18+ prison-themed cocktail lock-up near the centre, from £44, where you smuggle in your own spirits for a two-hour heist story. If you're after something free, the Palm House is the one to pick, and it suits any age since it's just a stroll. The Olympia works better for an evening out with older kids in tow. Alcotraz is strictly for adults after dark. There's also Scare City Experience, a longer trip out to Chorley, a live-actor scare trail from £32.50 aimed at older teens aged 14 to 16 rather than younger children.
