Pantomime & Family Theatre in Liverpool

Panto season around Liverpool means a proper spread of stages rather than one big draw. Shakespeare North Playhouse in Prescot has family shows and tours from £5, plus a play area right by the café, and some performances let you decide what to pay. St Helens Theatre Royal is doing Peter Pan this year, tickets from £20. The Brindley in Runcorn keeps things simple with a café and free parking right opposite. For value, Shakespeare North's pay-what-you-decide performances and the Lowther Pavilion's tickets from £2 (a longer trip out to Lytham St Annes) are hard to beat, and the Lowther has mini-golf and crown green bowls outside if the show is only half the day. Wigan Little Theatre suits ages 3 and up, but seats need booking ahead rather than turning up on the day. If you want more than a show, Storyhouse in Chester (a longer trip out, but free entry) throws in a cinema, library and free craft sessions most weeks.
