What it’s like
Panto and family shows in a proper old theatre, with seats booked in advance rather than turning up on spec.
This is a live theatre doing family productions, so the deal is different from a soft play or a farm. Kids get dressed up a bit, sit still for a couple of hours, and watch a proper show rather than climbing on anything. From age 3 they need their own seat, which is fair enough for safety but worth knowing if you've got a younger one who normally sits on your knee.
Tickets are £14 for adults and £12 for children or concessions, and booking's required rather than optional. You can do it online, by phone, or in person at the box office before a show, though the online route adds a 7.8% booking fee per ticket which stings a little on a family group. If you reckon you'll be back more than once in a season, the season ticket is the better deal: book the full run and you get a show free.
The building itself is the catch for some families. The staircases up to the circle are steep and narrow, and wheelchair spaces in the stalls are limited to two, with the adjacent seat kept for a carer. If that's you, ring the box office direct between 7 and 9pm during a production to sort it rather than trying to book it online.
Parking near the theatre is tight, with double yellows nearby and traffic wardens who do patrol, so it's worth having a plan B for the car before you set off. If you're coming by train, it's a walk up from Wigan station through the town centre, past Wilkinson's and first right.

Plan your visit
How much are tickets?
£14 for an adult, £12 for a child or concession. Book online, by phone, or at the box office before the show.
Do we need to book in advance?
Yes, booking's required. There's a 24 hour phone line, or the box office opens 7:30 to 9pm before and during performances.
Is it suitable for a toddler?
Children need to be 3 or over and have their own seat, so it's not really set up for babies or very young toddlers on a lap.
Is there wheelchair access?
Two wheelchair spaces in the stalls with a carer seat next to them. Ring 01942 242561 between 7 and 9pm during a production to book them.
What about parking?
Space nearby is limited and there are double yellow lines close to the theatre that traffic wardens do check, so it's not somewhere to rely on parking right outside.
