What it’s like

A live venue for comedy, theatre, music and cabaret in a converted space with its own access quirks.

This one's a stage rather than a soft play, so think comedy nights, theatre performances, live music and cabaret rather than anything with a ball pit. It's the sort of place you'd book a grown-up evening out around, or catch a matinee if that's what's on.

Getting in needs a bit of thought. The entrance is a steep ramp, somewhere between a 1 in 6 and 1 in 8 gradient, on an uneven surface, and the site is upfront that active wheelchair users should manage it but some disabled visitors may need a hand. The accessible toilet has grab rails and an alarm but there's no ceiling hoist and it won't take larger mobility equipment, so it suits standard chairs rather than bigger kit.

Parking is a genuine faff if you haven't got a blue badge. Badge holders can use the on-street bays on Grosvenor Street or the free time-limited ones on Weaver Street, but everyone else is looking at Castle Square car park, which is free after 3pm on weekdays and £5 all day at weekends. Drop-off on the approach road is limited to that only, no lingering, because of the double yellows and access needs there.
