Adventure Parks & High Ropes in Derby

If your kids are itching to climb something, Derby has options right in the city. The Climbing Unit Ltd is just off the centre, from £9.50, with bouldering walls graded for ability and mats instead of ropes for younger climbers. Mundy Play Centre is free and has a proper ropes course, mini golf and a BMX bowl, and Chaddesden Park adds a BMX track and water play with a café that shuts mid-afternoon. For bigger rope courses, it's a drive out to Moira for Conkers Vertigo (from £5, ages 8+, 30ft up) or Matlock Bath for Heights of Abraham, where a cable car and cavern tours lead up to a hilltop park. For toddlers, Mundy and Chaddesden cost nothing beyond your time. Older kids who want height and speed should look further out, to Sherwood Pines or Cannock Chase for Go Ape, both from £20.95, or a longer trip to Leicester for the aerial trekking at LOPC, bookable from age 8. Mount Cook Adventure Centre near Matlock suits six to elevens who fancy a quarry Via Ferrata. Everything here is outdoor, so check the weather before you set off.
