What it’s like
A free outdoor play park in Derby with a proper ropes course, mini golf, BMX bowl and a paddling pool in summer.
Entry's free, which is rare for a place with this much kit. There's a toddler corner with its own swings and slide, a bigger set of swings and a spider net for the older ones, and an Adventure Galley pirate ship that's built with disabled children in mind. If you've got a mix of ages in tow, that spread means nobody's stuck watching from the sidelines.
The Tree House Trek is the one to save till last, a ropes course with platforms, tunnels and a zip-line that'll eat up a good chunk of the visit on its own. There's also a BMX and skate bowl with jumps and grind bars for kids who've brought their own bikes or scooters, nine-hole mini golf, and a Pitch and Putt course running April to October. The bouncy castles and car track only run at weekends, Bank Holidays and school holidays, and they shut down completely from November, so a random Tuesday in term time isn't the day to plan around.
The paddling pool is a summer-only bonus, open from the Spring Bank Holiday to early September during the holidays, so don't turn up in April expecting a paddle. Parking isn't free even though the entry is: it's £2 for up to an hour, working up to £5.70 if you're staying more than four hours, though Blue Badge holders park free. Given how much there is to get through, especially with the ropes course thrown in, you can easily lose half a day here without spending a penny on entry.
