What it’s like

Free park with a BMX track, water play and football pitches, plus a café that shuts mid-afternoon.

This one's all outdoors and it doesn't cost you anything to get in. There's a proper play area, a BMX track for the ones who've outgrown the swings, a multi-use games area and football fields if you've brought a ball along. The water play bit is the one to save for last on a warm day, though it's not on all year round.

Water play only runs at weekends, half term and over the summer holidays, so if you're going on a random Tuesday in March don't expect the splash bit to be open. Everything here, including the play equipment and toilets, is weather permitting, which is a fair enough rule for an outdoor park but does mean a soggy morning could scupper your plans.

The café does food from 8am to 2pm, so it's breakfast and lunch rather than a late afternoon stop, and the toilets close at 3:30pm too. There are two free car parks on site, which takes the sting out of a spontaneous visit, and picnics are allowed if you'd rather bring your own and stay past café hours. It's wheelchair accessible, so buggies and wheelchairs shouldn't have any bother getting round.

There's no set age range given, but between the play area, the BMX track and the football fields there's enough spread to keep most kids busy for a couple of hours, longer if the water play's running.
