What it’s like

A theme park day of rides, a zoo and Thomas Land, with the option of staying over at the hotel next door.

Fifty-odd rides and attractions spread across the park, and the bit smaller kids will remember is Thomas Land, over 25 rides built round Thomas and friends. Adventure Cove has the wetter stuff, River Rapids and Wave Swinger among them, and there's a 15-acre zoo if you want a break from queuing. Frontier Falls does the Wild West theme, and Emily's Adventure Play and the Dino Trail give younger legs somewhere to potter that isn't a full-on ride.

A day ticket is £27.50 for age 4 and up, £15 for 2 to 3 year olds, and buying online adds a £2 transaction fee, which is a small sting but one to expect these days. If you fancy squeezing two days out of it, the flexi ticket runs £36 and £16 respectively. There are monthly annual passes too, from £5 up to £19.50, which starts to look sensible if you're local and going more than once.

Stay over at the hotel and the Stay & Play package includes park tickets, usable on both your check-in day and the day after, though it's worth knowing Bed & Breakfast alone doesn't include park entry. Check-in is 3:30pm, check-out 10:15am, and cots are free if you ask when booking. Breakfast and dinner both need booking ahead, the site's honest that they get busy, so that's one less thing to sort on the day.

Food on site runs through the Manor Brasserie & Bar, doing breakfast buffet, lunch, dinner and a Sunday roast. Parking is free for hotel guests who book direct, otherwise there's a standard charge, and wheelchair hire is available along with Essential Companion tickets for carers. The Easy Access Service has ride restrictions and a daily allowance, and it doesn't cover the 4D Cinema or The Haunting, worth factoring in if that affects your plans.
