What it’s like

A floating aqua park with a 12 metre X-Tower, plus open water swimming and paddleboarding on the lake.

The big draw here is the X-Tower, a 12 metre climb with six slides down, though that's a £5 add-on and you need to be 12 or over to go up it. The main Aqualand course itself is open to six-year-olds, but there's a 1.1 metre height rule and everyone has to go round with a buddy, so a nervous six-year-old needs a confident mate or parent alongside them, not just you cheering from the bank.

Pricing scales with group size: £25 general admission, £23 if your child fits the 4-9 bracket, £22 for 10-19 people booking together, and it drops to £20 a head once you've got twenty or more, handy for a group booking. Sessions run 80 minutes and you're told to arrive 30 minutes early for changing and the safety briefing, and if you miss that briefing they won't guarantee you still get in, which feels harsh but is fair enough given it's a safety talk. Wetsuits, buoyancy aids and aqua socks are all included, so you just need to bring a towel and warm clothes for afterwards.

If swimming rather than bouncing is more your thing, open water sessions are £7 a go or £60 for a pack of ten, and you don't need to book ahead, just turn up with a NOWCA band during a session. Under 15s need an adult with them in the water though. Paddleboarding is also on offer if the kids fancy something calmer than the tower.

The Food Bar does burgers, hot dogs, baguettes and chips, with some vegetarian and halal options, and there's parking free if you've booked an activity. Birthday parties get a party hut to use after the session, which is a nice way to stretch a short 80 minutes into a proper afternoon out. Just don't turn up with a picnic hoping to eat lakeside, that's not allowed.

How much does it cost?

£25 general admission, or £23 for the 4-9 age bracket, £22 for groups of 10-19, and £20 a head for 20 or more. The X-Tower is a £5 add-on and open water swimming is £7 a session or £60 for ten.

Do we need to book?

Yes, and walk-ins aren't recommended since availability isn't guaranteed. Swim sessions are the exception, you can just turn up with a NOWCA band.

How old do kids need to be?

Aqualand starts at 6, with a 1.1 metre height minimum. The X-Tower needs 12 and up, and open water swimming needs 10 and up with an adult if they're under 15.

How long do we get?

Sessions are 80 minutes, but arrive 30 minutes early for changing and the safety briefing.

What if we're running late?

They can't guarantee you'll get in if you miss the safety briefing, so build in time for traffic.

Is there a buddy system?

Everyone on Aqualand needs at least one other person with them on the course, so no solo sessions.

What do we need to bring?

Just a towel and warm clothes. Wetsuits, buoyancy aids and aqua socks are all included in the booking.

What's the food like?

The Food Bar does burgers, hot dogs, baguettes and chips, with some vegetarian and halal choices.

Can we bring a picnic?

Is parking free?

Free if you've got an activity booking. Otherwise it's £3 up to three hours, £5 up to six, or £10 for the full day.

Do you do birthday parties?

Junior Splash Party is £29.50 and Big Splash Party is £35, and you get a party hut to hang out in afterwards.
