What it’s like
A 500m2 bouldering hall and a 1000m2 roped climbing space where kids from 7 up learn to get up walls, not just look at them.
This is a proper climbing centre, not a soft play with a wall bolted on. Over 150 bouldering problems fill the 500m2 space, and there's a 1000m2 roped area for top-rope and lead climbing once you're competent enough. Younger climbers start with the kids clubs, Little Monkeys through to Lead Monkeys, or the After School and Holiday Kids Climbing Clubs if you want a regular slot rather than a one-off visit.
The catch for a family day out is the minimum age of 7, so this isn't one for a toddler or a younger sibling tagging along. Every under-18 needs supervision unless the staff say otherwise, which is fair enough given what's on the walls, but it does mean you're not dropping off and heading for a coffee elsewhere. Boof's Café is on-site if you want to actually get that coffee while you watch.
Pricing rewards planning ahead. An under-18 unregistered day costs £13.80 to £14.80 depending on when you go, but pay the £9.50 annual registration once and it drops to £9.80 to £10.80 a visit, which pays for itself fast if you're coming back. Adults are £15.80 to £16.80 unregistered, £11.80 to £12.80 registered. Weekdays run 10am to 10pm with last entry at 8:45pm, weekends are 10am to 6pm with last entry at 4:45pm, so an evening session after school is well within reach on a weekday.
Birthday parties start at £87 for six climbers on the Silver package, with Gold and Platinum adding room hire and food if you want less to organise on the day. Worth knowing that memberships lock you in for three months before you can cancel, so don't sign up on a whim before a single trial visit.
