The Attic Theatre
WHERE
Stratford-upon-Avon
What it’s like
A tiny 80-seat theatre in the centre of Stratford where family shows and pantomimes happen right in front of you.
This is not a big barn of a theatre with a balcony and an orchestra pit. It seats 80, so whatever's on stage, panto included, happens close enough that your kids will actually see the faces of the people telling them to look behind them. That's the whole appeal here: proper theatre, small enough that nobody's squinting at a distant stage.
Being that small does mean it's an intimate space rather than a grand one, so temper your expectations if you're after somewhere with room to spread out. Getting in currently means two flights of stairs, since the lift is out of service for maintenance, which is a genuine faff if you've got a buggy or anyone who struggles with steps. Worth looking at the seating plan before you book so you know what you're walking into.
It sits right in the middle of Stratford, opposite the Tourist Information Office, so you can walk to it from pretty much anywhere in town and there's no faffing about with directions. Parking's sorted too: the Bridgeway Multi-Storey is two minutes away on foot with 650 spaces and 13 accessible bays. For food, Cox's Yard nearby has a pub, a restaurant and a café with a beer garden looking over the river, handy for making an afternoon of it before or after the show.
