What it’s like
A leisure centre in Oldbury where kids can hit a roller disco, kick about in casual football or swim, all pay-as-you-go.
This is a straightforward leisure centre setup rather than a big attraction, and that's no bad thing. The roller disco is the standout for kids, £5.30 a go with skate hire on top at £1.30 if you haven't got your own. There's also casual football for under 18s at £3.50 a session, and swimming, with junior swim also £3.50 for anyone 17 and under.
None of it needs booking in advance if you're a member, and even non-members can just turn up for gym or swim sessions. If you want to lock in a class or a badminton court, though, non-members have to book and pay ahead, and there's no messing about with refunds if plans change, so that's worth bearing in mind before you commit.
Worth knowing on the swim front: under 8s aren't allowed in lane swimming sessions, and kids from 8 upwards need to be confident, competent swimmers to take part. If you're in Sandwell, free swimming runs for over 60s every day until 1pm, and for under 18s during school holidays, which takes the sting out of a session or two.
It's not a place you'd plan a whole day around, but for an hour of roller disco or a casual kickabout after school, it does the job without any fuss or advance planning.
