What it’s like

A leisure centre with pools, tennis courts and an athletics track, plus summer sessions of soft play and badminton.

This is a proper multi-sport site rather than a single attraction, so what your kids do here depends on the day and the booking. Swimming lessons run alongside general pool activities, there are tennis courts with junior programmes, and an athletics track kitted out for various events if you've got a child who fancies themselves as the next big sprinter. Football and sports hall sessions fill in the rest of the timetable.

In the summer holidays there's a softer offer too, with soft play and badminton sessions that make sense for a wet Tuesday when the athletics track isn't quite the plan. It's worth checking which activities are on which day, since this isn't the sort of venue where everything runs at once.

Opening hours are generous on weekdays, 6:30am to 10pm, dropping back to 8am to 6pm at weekends. There's a café on site for the inevitable post-swim chips, and the building is wheelchair accessible with an accessible toilet and blue badge parking, which matters if you're juggling a buggy and a kit bag. Birthday parties are also hosted here if you fancy skipping the bouncy castle hire this year.

Lockers are available, so you don't have to carry your goggles and shin pads round with you all day. Given the range of activities, this suits families with kids old enough for structured sessions like swimming lessons or junior tennis, though the summer soft play sessions bring the younger ones into the picture too.
