What it’s like
A free recreation ground with two play areas, a skate spot, basketball court and jogging routes to wear out any age.
There are two separate climbing frame play areas here, so a toddler and a seven-year-old can both find their level without one of them getting flattened by the other's ambitions. Beyond that there's a basketball court, a skateboarding area, and multi-use playing fields if you've brought a ball and fancy some space to kick it about.
The 2 kilometre walking and jogging routes are the bit that'll actually get you moving too, not just the kids, and there's outdoor gym equipment along the way if you want to pretend that's exercise. Pre-schoolers get their own free weekly nature tots session, which is a nice low-key option if soft play isn't your thing that day.
It's free to get in and there's parking on site, which makes it an easy no-planning visit. The one thing to know before you go is that there are no toilets on site, so factor that in if you've got a small one mid potty-training. The ground holds Queen Elizabeth II Fields In Trust status, awarded back in 2014, which just means it's protected green space for good.
