What it’s like
A free park with a trim trail to clamber over, wildlife events through the year, and an ice cream man parked up for teas and soft drinks.
The trim trail is the main event here, the sort of thing kids will happily loop round again and again while you stand there pretending you're not also tempted to have a go on the balance beams. There's no set entry fee, it's just there to be used, and the park's open to pedestrians at all times so you're not tied to a session or a closing bell.
Beyond the trail, the site runs wildlife learning events through the year, and an Easter event that brings in the Easter Bunny and the Easter Chicken, which is a nice excuse to make a special trip rather than just the usual pass-through. There's an ice cream man often on site for teas, coffees and soft drinks, though don't count on much beyond that for food, and there are no toilets, the charity's decided the running costs aren't worth it, which is a fair enough call but one to plan around if you've got a toddler mid potty training.
Parking is limited and the car park keeps proper hours, opening later on weekdays in term time and earlier at weekends and in the holidays, closing at 17:30 in winter or 19:30 in summer. It gets busy at school pick-up, so if you're driving in, aim either side of that rush. There are two Blue Badge spaces. Dogs are welcome round the park but kept out of the children's play area, and owners are expected to clean up after them, no horses allowed at all.
