What it’s like
Zip wires and rope crossings through the forest canopy, with a kids' course for the 4 to 10s who aren't ready for the full height.
The Treetop Adventure is the main event: a high ropes course strung between the trees with obstacles, crossings and zip wires, and there's a version scaled down for the 4 to 10 age bracket so you don't need a ten-year-old to justify the trip. Book it in your head as a two-hour visit even though you only get an hour actually up in the trees, because harnessing up, the safety brief and collecting your certificate at the end eats the other hour. Turn up rushed and you'll feel it.
There's a play area on site for anyone who bails out early or wasn't tall enough to go up in the first place, plus proper walking trails through the forest, the Stick Man Trail and a Wallace and Gromit themed Forest Walkies. Those are the bit to save for after the ropes course, when everyone's legs have had enough of climbing but not enough of being outside.
Prices sting a bit if you're doing it as a family: £36.95 for an adult on the standard Treetop Adventure, £20.95 for a child on the junior version. There's also a Sundown Adventures option for age 6 and up if you fancy doing it as the light's dropping. Booking ahead is the sensible move, though the site says you can walk up to the cabin on the day and take your chances.
The Wyre Forest Cafe does hot and cold food and drinks, and there are picnic benches scattered round if you'd rather bring your own. Pushchairs and wheelchairs are fine on the main path to the cabin and the spectator decking, but the actual Treetop Challenge paths through the forest are narrow, uneven and have steps, so it isn't one for everybody on the day. Dogs are welcome around the site on a lead, just not on the course itself.

Do we need to book?
Booking ahead online is the recommended way in, though you can walk up to the cabin on the day and see if there's space.
How long does it take?
You get an hour actually in the trees, but budget up to two hours once you add harnessing, the safety brief and picking up your certificate at the end.
What age is the course suitable for?
The junior Treetop Adventure covers age 4 to 10. Sundown Adventures needs kids to be at least 6.
Is there anything for kids who don't want to do the ropes course?
There's a play area on site, plus the Stick Man Trail and the Wallace and Gromit Forest Walkies trail through the forest.
Is there parking?
Yes, a large pay and display car park run by Forestry England. Note that parking fees aren't included if you're booking a birthday party.
Can we bring a pushchair or wheelchair?
The main path to the cabin, the decking and the spectator area for Treetop Adventure are fine for both. The actual Treetop Challenge forest paths are narrow and uneven with steps, so it's best to contact them ahead if accessibility is a concern.
What food is available?
The Wyre Forest Cafe does hot and cold food and drinks, and there are picnic benches around the forest if you'd rather eat your own.
Can we bring dogs?
Well behaved dogs on a lead are allowed around the site, including designated areas at the cafe, but not on the course itself.
Do you do birthday parties?
You can book a party online or by phone, with no minimum or maximum group size. It includes time on the course plus a forest shelter hire option from £18 an hour if you want a base to eat cake.
How do we get there without a car?
The nearest train stations are Kidderminster, about a 30-minute bus ride away, and Ludlow, around 35 minutes by bus.
Will satnav take us to the right place?
Not always. It's worth heading for the main forest car park rather than trusting the postcode blindly.
