BEST FOR
Ages 10+
WHERE
Stratford-upon-Avon
What it’s like
Two themed puzzle rooms, Shakespeare's house or a witches-and-wizards curse hunt, built for older kids who can handle a proper brain teaser.
You get an hour locked in with your group, either poking round Shakespeare's home for clues or hunting down cursed artefacts as witches and wizards. Nobody's climbing anything or getting physical, it's all searching, thinking and the occasional argument about who spotted the obvious clue first. Rooms hold six max, so if you're a bigger family you'll be running back to back games rather than all squeezing in together.
This isn't one for younger kids. The site is upfront that under-10s might struggle with some of the puzzles, and anyone under 18 has to have a paying adult with them the whole time, no dropping teenagers off and going for a coffee. Given the puzzle-solving involved, it suits older children and teenagers far better than the primary school crowd.
Budget an hour and a half all in, from walking through the door to walking back out, even though the game itself is an hour. Turn up more than ten minutes early and you'll just be waiting around, and turn up late and they may have to cut your time short to keep the next booking on schedule. There's no wiggle room on cancellations either, no refunds if you don't show, and rebooking within 24 hours costs you £20.
It's first floor only, so no lift and no wheelchair access, worth knowing if that affects your group. Parking's a short walk away rather than on the doorstep, with a pay and display option on Greenhill Street and multi-storeys on Windsor Street and Rother Street.
