What it’s like
Themed escape rooms and outdoor City Hunt games for kids eight and up, with roughly 90 minutes per adventure.
This is puzzle solving with a story wrapped round it. Pick a themed room, Aladdin, Alice in Puzzleland or Dracula among them, and your group has 60 minutes locked in to crack the clues and get out. The whole visit runs to about 90 minutes once you count the pre-game briefing and waivers, plus a bit of time after in the lounge and bar for photos. There's also City Hunt, which takes the puzzles outside into games like Time Cops and Return To Wonderland, and that one runs closer to two hours.
Eight is the minimum age for the escape rooms, and under-16s need a paying adult in the room with them, so this isn't one for younger siblings tagging along. City Hunt is more flexible, with under-8s going free as long as they're with two paying players. Some of the puzzles are built for two people to solve together, which is a nice touch for pairing up an adult with a less confident kid, but it does mean a lone player might get stuck waiting on someone else.
Pricing drops the more of you there are, from £30 a head for two players down to £21 for six, so this is one where rounding up a bigger group actually pays off. Birthday parties start at £20 per person and the birthday child goes free if you've got ten or more, which softens the cost for a proper group booking. It's card only though, so don't turn up planning to pay cash on the door.
City Hunt is weather dependent and can get cancelled in rough conditions, worth bearing in mind if you're banking on the outdoor option. Many of the escape rooms take up to two wheelchair users, and assistance dogs are fine in the games rooms too.
