What it’s like
A small, music-mad museum where kids can compose in the studio and sit in a Ghost Town car, not just look at cases of guitars.
This one's built around Coventry's own music history, but it's not a place where you just shuffle past glass cases. There's a studio where kids can have a go at composing and making music themselves, a Rude Boy's Bedroom display to poke around in, and a Ghost Town car you can actually sit in. For a museum, that's a decent amount of hands-on stuff for a ten-year-old to get stuck into, and the site says there's plenty aimed at younger visitors too.
It's open Thursday to Sunday, mornings through to mid afternoon, with last entry half an hour before close (3:30pm on Thursday to Saturday, 2:30pm on Sunday). That's a fairly tight window if you're planning around a nap or a toddler's lunch, so it's worth turning up earlier rather than later. Entry is £6 for adults and £3 concession, which for a museum this size feels like the sort of price you don't need to think twice about.
There's no booking system. There's a café on site if the visit overruns snack time, and both card and cash are accepted. Wheelchair access is via a stair climber into the museum, and they ask that you ring 24 hours ahead if that's something you'll need on the day.
