What it’s like

A theatre stage for pantomime and family shows, plus youth theatre classes for older kids.

This is a proper theatre, not a soft play with a stage bolted on, so what your kids do here is sit and watch, with pantomime and family musical shows making up the bulk of what's on. If you've got a teenager who fancies treading the boards themselves rather than watching, there are youth theatre classes running for ages 6 to 18.

Booster seats are available for smaller children, which is a nice touch, but worth knowing that anyone over 18 months needs their own ticket, so this isn't a free-lap-sit situation even for a babe in arms. Doors open an hour before the show and they recommend getting there 20 minutes early, which feels about right once you've wrangled coats and found your seats. Latecomers risk being held at the door until a suitable break, so don't cut it fine if you've got a toddler who takes forty minutes to leave the house.

Food-wise, there's a bar with the usual sweets and snacks, but it's cards only, so leave the coin purse at home. If you want a proper meal, the town centre is a ten minute walk away and Casa Med Tapas will knock a discount off if you mention your ticket.

Parking's free in the main car park, though if you arrive before 6pm you have to type your registration into a tablet in the foyer, which is a slightly odd bit of admin for a night at the panto. Access is step-free into the foyer and ground floor auditorium, with a lift up to the 1st and 2nd floor seating, and wheelchair spaces are limited so it's worth flagging with the box office ahead of time.

Plan your visit

How much are tickets?

You can book via the website or the box office, though prices vary by show so it's best to check the listing for whichever performance you fancy.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes, tickets are bought ahead through the website or box office rather than on the door.

Is there parking?

Free parking in the main car park right next to the building. Arrive before 6pm and you'll need to punch your registration into a tablet in the foyer.

Does my baby or toddler need a ticket?

Once they're past 18 months, yes, everyone needs their own seat and ticket.

What if we're running late?

Doors open an hour before curtain up and they suggest arriving 20 minutes early. Latecomers may be held outside until there's a natural break in the show.

Can we bring the pushchair in?

Not into the auditorium itself. Staff can advise on storing it during the performance, though it's left at your own risk.

What about food and drink?

There's a bar with snacks and sweets, but it's cashless, cards only. For a fuller meal, the town centre is a ten minute walk with more choice, and Casa Med Tapas offers a discount if you mention your ticket.

Is it accessible for wheelchairs?

Step-free from the main entrance and level access to the ground floor auditorium, with a lift to the upper floors. Wheelchair spaces are limited, so it's worth discussing your needs with the box office beforehand.
