What it’s like

Youth theatre classes and pantomime shows for ages 6 to 18, tucked into the Jewellery Quarter.

This is one for the kid who likes putting on a show rather than just watching one. The youth theatre runs drama games, songs, dance and role play for the younger end, with proper classes stretching up to age 18, so a six-year-old and a sixteen-year-old could both find a group that fits. There's pantomime too, if you just want seats for an afternoon rather than signing anyone up for a term.

The classes are priced per term rather than per session, £65 for the first child in the Juniors group (ages 6-9), dropping to £45 for each sibling after that. It's not pocket change, but a term's worth of weekly sessions usually works out reasonable per class, and having a second child join for £45 softens the blow if you've got more than one drama-mad kid at home.

It sits right by Jewellery Quarter Station, about five minutes on foot, or two minutes from St Paul's Metro stop if you're coming that way. Parking on Livery Street or Northwood Street is pay and display through the day Monday to Saturday but free evenings and weekends, which suits an after-school class nicely. There's a multi-storey on Vyse Street too if the on-street spaces are full, and everything on-street goes free after 6pm anyway.
