Pantomime & Family Theatre in Newcastle

A good panto needs a proper community feel, and the People's Theatre gives you that a couple of miles from the centre, with its long-running Christmas show and tickets from £16.50 (there's a youth drama group for teenagers too, if that's more your child's thing). For something further afield, the Empire Theatre & Cinema in Consett does children's plays and family films aimed at ages four to eleven, tickets from £7, with a café for the interval. Durham's Gala Theatre & Cinema has a proper family programme and its own café to wait out before curtain up. If budget matters, Consett is the cheapest ticket on this page and best suited to younger children. Newcastle's People's Theatre suits older kids who might fancy joining in themselves. Durham and Consett are both a drive out rather than a quick trip, so build that into your evening, but each has somewhere to eat or sit beforehand, which takes the edge off a wait for curtain up.
