A relaxed, sensory-friendly performance of the Beauty and the Beast panto at People's Theatre, Tuesday 15 December 2026.

This relaxed performance of Tom Whalley's Beauty and the Beast panto is adapted for audience members who benefit from a calmer environment, including people with learning disabilities, neurodivergent audience members and anyone sensitive to lights or noise. The lights stay dimmed rather than going fully off, flashes and loud bangs are removed, and you're free to move around or step out to the foyer and come back in during the show. It's also a good option for young children at their first panto or families with babies who might need to leave and return. The story, music and dance numbers are the same as the regular panto performances, so it can be enjoyed by anyone, not just those who need the adjustments. Whether this particular performance will have a BSL interpreter is still to be confirmed. The show follows Belle as she's taken prisoner by the Beast in his enchanted castle, home to talking crockery and a wisecracking pair of salt and pepper shakers, while her father and best friend try to rescue her. Running time is approximately 2 hours 30 minutes including an interval. Tickets are £20 for adults, with concessions and children aged 16 and under at £16.50. Concession price applies to seniors receiving Pension Credit, students and unwaged patrons, and all children must be accompanied by an adult. Babes in arms and children aged 2 and under who can sit on a lap don't need a ticket. A family ticket (2 adults and 2 children, or 1 adult and 3 children) gets a £4 discount automatically applied at checkout. Tickets are non-refundable but can be transferred to another date or exchanged for a credit note with 24 hours or more notice. Wheelchair spaces are available at the front of the auditorium but can't be booked online, so call the box office to arrange these.
