What it’s like
A community theatre putting on pantomime and musical theatre, with a Christmas show that's clearly the big draw.
The main event here is pantomime, with Mother Goose the one they're staging this Christmas. There's also a musical theatre summer school for young performers aged 8 to 18, plus auditions and shows run through the Pantomime Society, so if your child fancies being on stage rather than watching from the stalls, there's a route in.
One rule to know before you book: any child under 16 has to be accompanied by an adult for the whole event, not just dropped at the door. That's fine if you're planning a family trip to the panto anyway, less fine if you were hoping to hand over an eight-year-old and grab a coffee. Concession prices apply to under-16s and over-60s, which softens the ticket cost a bit.
Booking is online or by phone, and payment has to be settled in full within two weeks or the tickets go back on sale, so don't dawdle once you've reserved. There's a small payment processing fee on top for online and phone bookings. If you'd rather not pay that, in-person sales run the first Saturday of the month from 10am to 1pm, and also up to 30 minutes before a show.
Parking is the one to plan around: it's street parking only, restricted, and they're firm that you shouldn't block access or garages. Public transport is the easier option if you've got one nearby. The building itself is accessible, with two dedicated wheelchair bays, accessible seating and toilet facilities in the main auditorium, so it's worth flagging what you need when you book.
