What it’s like

A local theatre club putting on a Christmas pantomime plus four family-friendly plays a year, September to June.

This is a community theatre with a proper season behind it: four plays running September to June, plus a Christmas pantomime that's the one production where children get properly involved on stage as well as in the audience. Outside the panto, it's an adults' club, so don't expect a youth theatre or under-16s taking part unsupervised.

Tickets are £12 Tuesday to Saturday or £10.50 on Mondays if you fancy the cheaper night out, and if you know you'll be going regularly a season ticket brings the per-show cost down (£42 or £36 for Monday nights). Worth knowing the season ticket doesn't cover the pantomime itself, so that's always booked separately.

Refreshments are limited to the interval, a small selection of ice creams, soft drinks and water, and there's a bar too if you fancy a sealed bottle of wine or a premixed gin and tonic while you wait for the second half. It's not the kind of venue with a proper pre-show meal on offer, so eating beforehand makes more sense than relying on what's there.

Parking near the theatre is tight and residents' bays apply, though Front Street bays go free after 6:30pm, which lines up nicely with an evening performance. If you're coming by metro or bus, Tynemouth station and the local bus routes are only a few minutes' walk away, which takes the parking headache out of it altogether. Wheelchair users are catered for with dedicated spaces, but access is via the alley on the left of the building, so it's best to let them know you're coming.

Plan your visit

Is this suitable for children?

Outside of the Christmas pantomime, it's an adults' club rather than a youth theatre. Children are welcomed as part of the pantomime and in appropriate plays and roles, but under-16s cannot take part unsupervised.

How much are tickets?

£12 for most nights, £10.50 if you go on a Monday. A season ticket reserves your seat for every show and works out cheaper if you're a regular, though it doesn't cover the pantomime.

Can we get food or drinks there?

There's a small selection of ice cream, soft drinks and water sold in the interval, subject to availability. A limited bar is also open before the show and at the interval, selling sealed wine, premixed gin and tonic and bottled beer.

Is there parking?

Parking nearby is limited and residents' restrictions apply, but the Front Street bays are free after 6:30pm. The metro station and bus routes are only a few minutes away if you'd rather skip parking altogether.

How do I book tickets?

You can book by phone, email, message through the website, or instantly online. A season ticket is also available if you want the same seat for every production in the run.
