Tours, Trails & Treasure Hunts in Birmingham
A trail hunt here does not have to mean queuing for a big attraction. Martineau Gardens, close to the centre, is free to wander and has a Stick Man trail and a shipwreck play area for ages 3 to 10. Out at Walsall, the Arboretum adds a splashpad and skate park to its paths, also free. If you fancy going further afield, Perlyny Tours run coach trips from Birmingham itself out to Stonehenge, Bath, Windsor Castle and the Cotswolds, with a cheaper late-afternoon fare on some routes. For toddlers, Martineau Gardens and the Arboretum are the easiest, flat paths, no entry fee and somewhere to picnic. Older kids who fancy a proper walk should try RSPB Middleton Lakes at Bodymoor Heath, free trails and pond dipping among the reedbeds. For something with more of an occasion feel, there is a longer trip out to Meriden for The Barn At Berryfields, from £5, with pumpkin picking, farm animals and an ice rink, plus axe-throwing for children aged 3 and up who want a challenge.
