What it’s like
Free park with a splashpad, playground, skate park and miles of paths to explore, and it costs nothing to get in.
There's a proper spread of things to do here and none of it costs anything to walk into. The playground has a wheelchair-accessible roundabout and a nest swing, there's a free skate park, table tennis tables, and outdoor fitness kit dotted about if you fancy a go yourself while the kids are on the swings. In summer the splashpad is the one they'll ask about again, though it only runs weekends, school holidays and bank holidays until the end of August 2026, and it's shut on weekdays during term time, so check which day you're going before you promise it.
Beyond the play stuff it's really a walking and wildlife park. Hard, flat paths run right through it, wide enough for a double buggy or a wheelchair, with viewing platforms if you want to stop and point out ducks. That makes it an easy one for a toddler in a pushchair and just as easy for an older kid on a scooter heading for the skate ramps.
There's a café on site and proper accessible toilets with baby change. Parking is free if you use the Arboretum extension on Broadway North or The Crescent, though the entrances nearer the town centre are paid, worth knowing if you're just aiming for a quick loop rather than a full afternoon.
If you're the sporty sort of parent there's a fair bit going on beyond the playground too, free Couch to 5K sessions, a Saturday parkrun at 9am, health walks, and free fitness classes like bootcamp and boxing on weekday mornings. None of it needs booking except the tennis sessions, which the site says are free but need reserving ahead.
