What it’s like
A miniature train ride through countryside and a tunnel, plus a climbing fort, for a couple of quid a ticket.
The main event is the train, chugging through open countryside and into a tunnel that'll be the bit your two-year-old talks about for weeks. Once you're off, there's a Play Fort for climbing and crawling, and river and nature reserve walks if the kids still have legs left. It's outdoor, it's simple, and at £2.40 a child single it doesn't feel like the sort of ticket price that makes you wince at the gate.
Under-2s ride free with no ticket needed, and a family can do a return or go for the day rover if you fancy multiple laps. Dogs are welcome on board for £1, which is a nice touch if you're bringing the whole crew including the four-legged one. Pushchairs and wheelchairs are allowed on the train but space is genuinely tight, so the site recommends leaving buggies on the platform, and asks you to ring ahead if you're bringing more than one wheelchair.
Don't expect facilities on site. There's no toilet and no café, just cold drinks at the ticket hut, with proper loos and eateries a five-minute walk away in the main shopping area. That's fine if you plan for it, less fine if you've got a toddler who's just announced they need the toilet mid-tunnel. There's a gift shop by the ticket office if pester power needs an outlet on the way out.
Opening hours flex through the year: Wednesdays in term time, weekends all year, and daily through the summer holidays. It's open every day from 18 July to 2 September 2026, plus an Autumn Trail by Train event in late October and a Kids Free week in November. Birthday parties aren't catered for here, so this one's for a straightforward day out rather than a party venue.
