The Grange Playhouse
WHERE
Walsall
What it’s like
A small community theatre with a 104-seat auditorium putting on a proper stage production nine nights running, six times a year.
This is a proper theatre, not a soft play with a stage bolted on, so what your kids get is 104 seats, a curtain going up at 7:30pm and a live production running for nine nights straight, not Sundays. Six shows a year land in September, November, January, March, May and July, so there's a rhythm to it if you fancy making it a regular thing rather than a one off.
Nobody's listed an age range for who these productions suit, and that matters more than it sounds. A 7:30pm curtain is a late start whichever way you cut it, and whether that works depends entirely on your own child rather than anything the venue's spelling out. A twelve-year-old who's happy to sit still through two acts is a different prospect to a five-year-old who normally clocks off before the theme tune's finished.
With only 104 seats, this isn't a barn of a place where you can rock up on the night and hope. Nine performances per production sounds generous until you realise that's the whole run, and a small house fills up.
