What it’s like
A community theatre in Leamington Spa putting on straight plays and musicals, with a studio space for smaller shows.
This is a proper drama society setup rather than a big commercial theatre, with a main house and a smaller studio space running separate seasons of plays and musicals. Tickets run £19 to £20 on the main stage depending on the night, £17 to £18 if you're a concession, and £14 flat for the studio. Musicals add a £4 surcharge on top, which stings a bit if you're taking more than one person along.
The one genuinely good deal here is free tickets for anyone aged 16 to 25 with ID, one per show, which makes it worth a look if you've got teenagers who fancy an evening at the theatre without you footing the bill twice. The box office only opens on performance nights, 6.45pm to 8.30pm for the main house and 7pm to 8pm for studio shows, so you can't just ring up on a Tuesday afternoon and expect someone to pick up.
Access is decent for the main auditorium: step-free to the entrance, foyer and lower level, with room for two wheelchairs in the front row and an induction loop for hearing aids. The studio and the bar are the exception, both up a flight of stairs, so if that's a problem for anyone in your group it's worth planning around. Parking isn't on site but there are a few council car parks close by, Newbold Terrace, Euston Place, Dormer Place and Bath Place.
It's volunteer-run, which shows in the limited contact hours rather than in what's on stage. Gift vouchers are available to any value if you want to book ahead for someone's birthday, and assistance dogs are welcome with a bit of advance notice by email.
