What it’s like
Free gardens with a lake full of ducks, a play area in Mill Gardens, and flowerbeds and sculptures to wander past on the way.
There's no gate charge here, which makes it an easy one to just turn up to for an hour or fill a whole afternoon depending on how the day's going. The lake is the obvious pull for smaller kids, watching the ducks and geese, and the flowerbeds and sculptures dotted around give you something to point at as you walk. The play area is tucked into Mill Gardens, a bit separate from the main park, so it's not the first thing you see coming in.
Picnics are fine and, from what they say, actively encouraged, so bring a blanket rather than counting on buying lunch there. BBQs and campfires aren't allowed though. It's flat, paved in places and pushchair friendly throughout, with accessible toilets and baby change on site.
Dogs aren't allowed in the Mill Gardens play area, which is worth knowing if you're walking one on the lead and your kids want a go on the equipment at the same time. Parking is on Newbold Terrace and Newbold Street, a mix of pay-and-display and free bays, plus St Peters and Rosefield Street car parks if those are full. If you're coming by train it's a ten-minute walk from Leamington Spa station through Pump Room Gardens, a nicer route in than along the road.
