WHERE

Leamington Spa

What it’s like

A café and gallery by day on Regent Grove, turning into a basement gig venue and bar by night.

By day this is a straightforward café and art gallery, open every day from 9am, with a vegetarian and vegan kitchen doing brunch and lunch until 3pm and a proper tea list if you fancy sitting with a coffee and looking at whatever's on the walls. That part suits anyone wandering through Leamington Spa who wants a sit down and something to eat that isn't rushed.

Once evening comes, the building turns into a live music venue. Gigs happen in the basement, with doors from 7pm and music from 7.30pm on evening shows, or 2pm doors for the afternoon concerts. This is the part billed as an evening or afternoon gig night out rather than a daytime family visit, and the site doesn't say who the audience is meant to be or what a ticket costs, so treat it as a grown-up gig trip unless you already know the act and the crowd.

The bar stays open until 10.30pm on gig nights, pouring local beers, wines and cocktails alongside the soft drinks, and the kitchen's veggie and vegan food is worth knowing about if you want to eat before the show rather than after. One genuine catch: getting down to the gig space means about 12 stairs, and wheelchair access is limited to the ground floor and the upstairs toilet. If that's an issue, they'll screen the gig upstairs or in the side room instead, but you do need to flag it with them beforehand.

Parking is the easy bit. It's free on Regent Place from 7pm or Russell Terrace from 6pm, with a cheap car park about 100m away on Packington Place if you're there earlier in the day for the café side of things.
