What it’s like

One-to-one piano, guitar, drums, violin and singing lessons in Sutton Coldfield, with a free first taster lesson for under-15s on most instruments.

This is one-to-one tuition rather than a group class, so your five-year-old gets a tutor's full attention on piano, drums, guitar (acoustic, electric or bass), violin or singing. There's also cello, clarinet, flute, saxophone, trombone, trumpet, tuba, viola and steel pans on offer if your child fancies something less obvious than guitar. Music theory, note reading and sight-reading are folded into every lesson rather than sold as an extra, and tutors will work towards ABRSM, Trinity or Rockschool exams if that's the goal.

Under-15s get a free taster lesson, which is a decent way to test whether your child actually wants to learn piano or just wants to have wanted to learn piano. Worth knowing that violin and vocal lessons aren't included in that free first lesson, so those two come with a fee from the start. You don't need to own an instrument before you start either, they'll provide what's needed for the lesson.

Lessons run seven days a week with evening and weekend slots, which makes fitting a 4pm Tuesday slot around school pickup less of a headache than it sounds. Parents are welcome to sit in and watch, and tutors are DBS checked. If you miss a session, they'll reschedule as long as you give 24 hours' notice, so a sudden bout of half-term flu doesn't just mean a wasted lesson.

Beyond the weekly lesson there are band nights for children and adults, and three live showcases a year where pupils get to actually perform what they've been practising in their bedroom for months. Parking's free on site, the buildings are ground floor and wheelchair accessible, and there are bus stops close by if you're coming without a car.
