What it’s like

Eleven acres of parkland, a lake with fish and water fowl, and a free Wednesday opening that's the easiest way in.

There's a lake to peer into for fish and water fowl, a traditional swing in Swing Meadow, and a wheelchair accessible play train that's a nice touch you don't see everywhere. The Glade and Phoenix areas have sensory play equipment and sensory planting, and the site is upfront that stims and tics are welcome everywhere, which says something about the kind of visit they're going for. There's also the Ice House, a genuinely old bit of history tucked into what otherwise feels like a gentle green space rather than a big-name attraction.

Most people get in on Wednesdays, 10am to 4pm, through the Main Alcester Road entrance, and that's free. There are also Farmers' Market days, usually the last Saturday of the month, plus other listed open days. Outside of that the park runs on a subscriber key fob system with its own seasonal hours, so unless you've got a fob, Wednesday is your day.

The main path from the Alcester Road gate to the pool is fully accessible for wheelchairs, but other paths have uneven surfaces, slopes and tree roots, and the site is honest that the historic parts weren't built with accessibility in mind. There's an accessible toilet, though no baby change facility at the moment, and the Chantry Road gate has steep uneven steps so it's not the one to aim for with a buggy. The park can get muddy, which for eleven acres of meadow and woodland is not exactly a shock.

It's an easy trip by train too. Moseley Station is on the Camp Hill line with trains roughly every 30 minutes from New Street, and it's a short walk down Alcester Road from there. Parking locally is pay-and-display at Moseley Car Park, with limited on-street spaces nearby.
