What it’s like

A free, fully staffed adventure playground with a zip line, sandpit and a real fire pit for cooking and fire safety chat.

This isn't your bog-standard park visit. There's a proper wooden climbing structure with swings, a sandpit big enough to lose a wellie in, a zip line, and an open fire pit where staff run fire safety instruction and cooking. Add in creative play with recycled bits and loose parts, plus actual tool use and den building, and you can see why the site calls it a fully staffed area where imagination is the only boundary.

The sessions are split by age and day, which takes a bit of getting your head round. Under-fives get Adventure Tots on Wednesday mornings, there's After School on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons, and Youth Night runs Tuesday and Thursday evenings for 11 to 17 year olds. School holidays are simpler, with sessions running most weekdays 11am to 3.30pm and Saturday afternoons too. Entry itself is free, with a suggested £1 donation per child, though Home Ed and Forest Fun sessions carry a small charge.

Booking is required, and it's only held for the first 30 minutes, after that a one in, one out system kicks in if it's busy, so turning up right on time matters more than you'd think. It's closed Mondays, and the office doesn't answer Sundays or Mondays either, so sort your booking on a weekday. Being outdoors, this is fair-weather territory rather than a wet-day fallback.

If the kids exhaust the adventure playground, the wider Meriden Park has a lake, woodland, a skate park and a parkour area to wander over to, which stretches a visit out nicely for older ones who fancy more than swings and sand.

Plan your visit

How much does it cost?

Entry is free, with a suggested donation of £1 per child in cash or card. Home Ed and Forest Fun sessions have a small charge on top.

Do we need to book?

Yes, booking is required for sessions. It only holds your spot for the first 30 minutes, after that you might be queuing under a one in, one out system if it's busy.

What age is it suitable for?

Sessions run from under-fives right up to 17 year olds, split by day. Adventure Tots is for under-fives on Wednesday mornings, and Youth Night covers 11 to 17s on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

What do kids actually do there?

Climb wooden structures and swings, dig about in a large sandpit, have a go on the zip line, and cook or learn fire safety at an open fire pit. There's also den building and tool use on offer.

Is it open every day?

It's closed Mondays, and the office is also closed on Sundays and Mondays.

What if it's raining?

It's an outdoor adventure playground, so there's no indoor alternative on site if the weather turns.

Is there anything for younger children specifically?

Adventure Tots sessions on Wednesday mornings are aimed at under-fives, separate from the general After School and Youth Night sessions.

Is there more to do nearby if the kids want a change?

The wider Meriden Park has a lake, woodland, a skate park, a parkour area and a football pitch to wander over to.
