What it’s like

Have a go at indoor bowls on pay-and-play sessions, with a phone call to sort times and cost.

Indoor bowls is a slower, gentler game than it sounds from the outside. You roll weighted bowls down a flat green towards a smaller target ball, aiming to get closer than the other side. It's a good one for a kid who's happier being shown technique and taking their turn than one who wants to be climbing something, and it's all indoors on a proper green rather than a grass lawn outside.

Non-members are welcome to book pay-and-play sessions here, which is the easiest way in if you haven't got a club connection. The office runs on fairly tight hours, weekday mornings from 10am to 12pm once term starts in late September, and weekend sessions on the last Saturday and Sunday of September run 10am to 1pm. Last entry is midday, so this isn't a turn-up-whenever visit, you're working around a fairly narrow window.

There's a café on site for a drink and something to eat afterwards, and party rooms if you're thinking about a birthday do built around a bowling session. The centre shuts over Christmas, closed from 19th December 2026 through to 4th January 2027, so it's not one for a between-Christmas outing that year.

Because pay-and-play needs a phone call to arrange, it's worth ringing ahead rather than assuming you can just turn up on the day. That call is also where you'd sort out cost and check whether the session suits your child's age, since that's not something spelled out on a website you can just browse.

Plan your visit

Do we need to book?

Non-members need to call ahead to arrange a pay-and-play session. It's not a turn-up-and-play sort of place.

What do kids actually do?

You roll bowls down an indoor green towards a smaller target ball, trying to land closer than the other team. It's more about patience and aim than running about.

What are the opening hours?

Weekday mornings are 10am to midday once term starts in late September. On the last weekend of September there are longer sessions, 10am to 1pm.

Is there anywhere to eat?

There's a café on site for something after your session.

Can we do a birthday party there?

There are party rooms on site if you fancy building a birthday round a bowling session.
