What it’s like

A cashless, over-18s games bar in the city centre with duck pin bowling, crazy pool and shuffleboard, not a venue for kids.

This one's for the diary marked "no children", so if you're hunting for a family day out you can scroll straight past. Roxy Ball Room Victoria Square runs a Challenge 25 policy and is strictly over-18s, with duck pin bowling, crazy pool (a mash-up of crazy golf and pool), shuffleboard, ping pong, American pool and karaoke rooms.

Prices shift between off-peak and peak, so duck pin bowling runs £8 to £10 a game, and karaoke is £8 to £10 a person per hour. If you're doing a few activities in one visit, the mix and match deal works out cheaper, £18 a person for two activities or £24 for three. Everything's paid by card, there's no cash accepted anywhere in the venue.

There's a dress code worth knowing before you turn up: no sportswear, no football shirts, no tracksuit bottoms. Bowling shoes need to be flat-soled and non-marking, so heels and flip-flops are out, though they've got bowling shoes at the games desk if you need them. Food runs to American-style pizzas, burgers and wings, and the bar does cocktails and mocktails alongside the usual pints.

A portable ramp gets wheelchair users to activities with steps, and there's an accessible toilet on the ground floor, though karaoke room two is stairs-only. Booking online is recommended for gaming tables, especially at peak times, while drinking tables are more first come first served.
