What it’s like
Indoor go-karting on a private closed track, built for kids aged 7 and up who fancy racing for real.
This is proper racing, not the bumper-car version. Kids get a full race suit, gloves and a balaclava, sit through a driver briefing, then race on an indoor closed track before a podium presentation at the end. No driving licence needed since it's private land, but they do need to be 7 or older and at least 125cm tall, so this isn't one for a car full of mixed ages hoping everyone can have a go.
Budget more time than you think. A 20 minute sprint actually eats up an hour and twenty minutes once you count signing in, kitting up, the briefing and getting changed after, and they want you there 30 minutes before your slot too. Prices start from £25, which feels steep until you remember it's the full kit and a proper track, not a token lap. Bookings are non-refundable and can't be transferred, so a sick kid on the day is your problem, not theirs.
Not racing? There's a fenced spectator area and a 200-seat café with a licensed bar, so the grandparents or the sibling who's too small can watch and eat pizza while the others are out on track. Parking is free and there's masses of it at Star City, over 2,400 spaces, so that's one thing you won't need to worry about.
Anyone 16 or over racing needs to bring photo ID, and everyone needs proper closed shoes and no loose scarves or jewellery, which is worth sorting before you leave the house rather than at reception.
