Woodland & Forest in Nottingham

Nottingham has proper woodland close by without much of a drive. Clifton Woods sits right by the river near Clifton, dog friendly and reachable on local buses, with old ruins tucked among the trees to go and find. Out at Hucknall, the Linby Trail is a free 3.5-mile climb up from Linby with big views at the top, though it's steep enough that a buggy will be more hindrance than help. If you want free days out, Silverhill Wood near Mansfield and Dukes Wood at Eakring both cost nothing and have free parking, with Dukes Wood best saved for spring when the bluebells are out among the old oil pumps. Sherwood Pines is free to enter too, you just pay for parking, and its play trails and pedal paths suit older kids who want proper distance to cover. For something different, Heritage Wood is a longer trip out to Ashbourne, from £8, with an illuminated mile of trail followed by hot drinks and crafts, best booked ahead.
