If you fancy a proper view without much of a climb, Bennerley Viaduct in Awsworth is the one to know. It's a free skywalk, buggy and wheelchair friendly, sitting 18 metres above the Erewash Valley with a café open Thursday to Sunday and a nature reserve below for wandering after. For something bigger, there's a longer trip out to Matlock Bath, where Heights of Abraham combines a cable car over the valley with two cavern tours and a hilltop park, tickets from £16 and best suited to ages 4 to 15. Bennerley costs nothing and works for pushchairs, so it's the easier choice with toddlers or a tight budget. Heights of Abraham is the day out to plan for, with picnic spots and parking on site, and it's worth building in proper time since there's a fair bit to see once you're up top. Pack a picnic for either, but check food times at Bennerley if you're relying on the café.
