What it’s like
Baby and toddler signing classes teaching British Sign Language through weekly themes like bedtime or a trip to the park.
This is a signing class, not a soft play, so don't expect a big hall to wander round. Babies and toddlers learn British Sign Language signs built around a weekly theme, bedtime, family, a trip to the park, that sort of thing, alongside sensory activities meant to get them vocalising, listening and taking turns. There's social playtime built in too, so while the little one's busy with the sensory stuff you get a proper sit down and a chat with other parents, which after a run of broken nights is worth something in itself.
Classes run in 12-week blocks and cover 50 core signs each time, 150 in total across the full run. The site says you can often join mid-block if there's space, which is handy if you've only just heard about it. Baby Signing suits the very youngest, and Toddler Talking kicks in from around 18 months once they're after something more physical and interactive.
Sessions are short, 45 minutes to an hour, so it's an easy add-on to a morning rather than a whole outing. Thursday and Friday sessions are £8.50, but Sandwell residents get the Monday Baby Signing class free, which is the one to grab if you're eligible and the timing works for you. Booking's required for all of them, so this isn't a turn-up-and-see kind of place.
