What it’s like
A community club running everything from baby play sessions to skate club, Minecraft nights and a teen youth club, most nights costing just £1.
This is one of those places that seems to run a different club for a different age group most nights of the week, and the price tag stays put at £1 whatever's on (Minecraft sessions are £2). Under-fours get play and stay sessions in term time, mini club takes 6 to 9 year olds through crafts and activities, and junior club stretches that up to 13. There's skate club for beginners and the more advanced, and on the right night you'll find Just Dance, VR and Minecraft going on for the 6-plus crowd.
Once you're into the 11 to 16 bracket it turns into a proper youth club: snooker, table tennis, air hockey, computers, DJ-ing and cooking, plus a pool table, darts and table football if none of that grabs them. Teenagers get their own senior sessions from 13, and Duke of Edinburgh sessions run for the 14-plus group who are working towards their award. It's not a soft play or an attraction with a gift shop at the end, it's a proper club, and that's the appeal: kids go back because they know the crowd and the routine, not because there's a big slide to chase.
At £1 a session this isn't going to sting anyone's wallet, though the Minecraft nights at £2 are the closest thing to a splurge here. Booking is required, which is a small faff compared to turning up on spec, but for a pound a head that's not much to ask. The over-50s club with bingo and day trips is a reminder this isn't only for kids either, so if you've got grandparents wanting their own night out, there's one for them too.
